Day Two-RPI

This diagram states clearly how it can be helpful to gain a better understanding as to what your children's needs are. Finding time to dive deep into the data once you have done the testing is beneficial.

Getting this information from the survey and from just observing and allowing time to talk about reading and their thoughts on it etc can also be very helpful.

I have delved into the PAT results a little but have not really dived deeply into specific children. I think because we change children around every term this has been challenging at times to stay onto what the group you are taking needs are.  I did like how it took you to some ARB resources to help with specific things in the testing. I will definitely go back and use this and check my colleagues are aware of this. Inferencing has long been an area of weakness in these tests and I have tried practising this. I did like the strategy of just using only a short paragraph or sentence and inferencing from that would be a good activity to do.  Also getting them to practise multi choice questions approach as they will come across this for the rest of their schooling as an approach in testing.

  1. Hi Nicola,

Thanks heaps for sharing this reflection. I agree, swapping learners throughout the year can make it difficult to keep on top of exactly what their data shows - one of the more tricky bits about ILEs. For now, PAT can be useful with your current learners, and as you reflected on, particularly when thinking about next steps and resources that might support this.

I look forward to hearing how you get on over the next three weeks,
    Georgie

  2. Kia ora Nicola,
It was great to read your summary of the learning from today. I love looking at data and seeing what I can find to help my students to stretch and grow in their learning. I realise it is tricky with changing groups but isn't it great to know you have them for at least a term before they change around. I know my teaching colleague and I would look at the whole group together so we both had a clear understanding of where they all were and how we could best support all of them. You have the advantage of knowing you are with the Year 4s so that gives you an advantage when looking at the data for that specific group. No need to look at all three year groups.
Looking forward to reading about what you try out following this session.
Keep up the great learning and blogging,
:) Sharon - Te Ara Tūhura Education Programme Leader
